Dinah had gotten Tara's e-mail-- not fast enough for the new kickass boots to get there in time, but soon enough to do this:

"WOOOOOOO!" Dinah cheered along with the other people in the bar, and then sang out, "Happy birthday! Hope it's great, and my present gets their soon! Call when you've got a minute!"

Kennedy got the voicemail about five minutes after it came in, and was more than happy to set aside her stupid Watcher-assigned essay to call back.

"So, I take it you guys are having a blast on the trip?"

"Kennedy! Birthday girl! We are!" Dinah grinned and a couple people behind her called, "HI KENNEDY! Which Kennedy...?"

"We made it to a couple TV filming sets this week, and Vegas was awesome! How about you guys, anything invade in the last couple days?"

Somewhere in the background, a faint chorus echoing the birthday song could be heard, along with 'Come on, come on, two more pages, you can do it!'

"Nothing except flowers," Kennedy told her with a slight, amused eyeroll at the people in the background on Dinah's end; she'd gotten that question before. "They're freaking everywhere today, and they keep talking, and singing, and all kinds of crap."

"Oh, wow, just so typical," Dinah said, laughing. "Maybe they all woke up for your special, special day?"

"That's what I thought," Kennedy replied as the jasmine blossoms draped down over her window burst out into a chorus of Get back to work! "Until they started getting mouthy. As mouthy as mouthless plants can get."

If there were Venus flytraps involved in all this, she didn't want to know what they had to say.

"What are they babbling about that you have to get back to?" Dinah asked, intrigued. "That is so, so weird. Even for Fandom."

"Ugh, my Watcher gave me an essay assignment to write," Kennedy complained. "On my birthday, how wrong is that? I'm almost done, but man."

"You're what-now?" Dinah stopped, even more curious. "It's totally wrong, so why are you doing it? They aren't there in Fandom, are they?"

"My Watcher," Kennedy repeated. "British, stuffy, my source of information for all things Slayage? And will totally call and bitch me out if this essay isn't in her inbox tomorrow morning."

"Ohhhh right, her." Dinah shook her head. "I'll let you get back to that, so you can get it done and get to cake. Tell Tara we said hi too, okay?"

"The party's not until tomorrow," Kennedy replied, flipping off the flowers. "So I'm trying to think of this as earning the cake. Sucks you guys can't be here for it, but I'll let her know you said hey."

The affection in her voice was clear when she added, "She's been working her cute little butt off planning this thing. Kinda love it."

"Awwwww," Dinah teased. "What's she got set up for you tomorrow then?"

"Big thing at Fast Eddie's," Kennedy replied, taking the teasing with a good-natured eyeroll. "Sadly, no ponies indoors, but it should be fun. I'll bowl a couple strikes for you."
