Kennedy didn't have any Monday classes this semester, which was never a thing she'd complain about, but today that had bonus benefits-- mostly because it made things slightly less hectic when she got last-minute notice that she'd have a friend coming in for a visit, Wesley. Only slightly less hectic, though. She was used to Willow's freakouts by now, and had expected one due to the near-surprise factor here, but either she wasn't in the loop about something or she'd just misjudged-- she was leaning toward the latter-- because she honestly hadn't expected her girlfriend to get quite as weird and flaily about this as she did.

So it had been a little awkward when he'd showed up, but now that Willow had headed off to class Kennedy and Wesley had been left to their own devices.

"It's a little slow on the demony front this week," she was saying apologetically, sprawled out in an armchair while she scrolled through emails on her phone, "but if you really need to get your nerd on at some point I'm pretty sure we can come up with something."

"No need to summon any demons on my account," Wesley replied a little dryly - though the slight raspiness to his voice might have made his tone a little harder to read than usual. Perils of a throat injury, ladies and gentlemen. "LA's been busy enough that I don't mind the recess as long as something isn't actively attacking."

In which case he rather assumed she'd encourage taking some sort of action. Because Kennedy.

"The quiet here must be rather nice, after Fandom and the Hellmouth," he observed. "Actually, this whole place is rather nice in general."

Not that he was scoping out other places to live back in his own dimension or anything. Nooo.

"Thank you," Wesley snarked easily, and that time you could hear the dryness. "Care to hear the story, or should I refrain from 'talking shop,' as it were?"

He figured there was probably a chance she might have heard already. Being from the future and all.

"Not historically, no," Wes agreed wryly. He was much more of a sit-at-a-desk-and-snark guy. "This is much more your forte. I suppose I'm learning by example."

Something like that.

"Well, I suppose I should start with the fact that about three months ago, Angel and Darla gave birth to a human son."

And he could go on from there, really, but -- vampire baby. He supposed he ought to at least hold for gasps, or something.

"They are certainly not mixy things," Wesley agreed. "And thank you, very much, for the... er, image that you supplied. Truly."

He was going to cherish it always in the part of his brain that was on reserve for in case a demon ever came to town who preyed on people's happy emotions. He could just whip out that visual and suddenly, boom. No happiness, only grossness.

"Naturally, I did my best to get ahold of relevant texts that might shed some light on the situation, which is a rather time-consuming process regardless of what Fred and Charles might think--" Wes, maybe tone down the obvious annoyance. "In any event, a week ago, I translated a portion of a prophecy which stated that Angel will eventually kill the child. And I... wasn't quite sure what to do with that information."

This was where the shame kind of set in, because yeah, his plan wasn't looking so hot in hindsight.

Fred totally had chemistry with everyone, yup. Even Spike was fond of her.

"Well, I've heard quite a bit about self-fulfilling prophecies," Wesley began, just a little bit defensive. "And I've had... problems with sharing my translations with Angel before. So I, ah, I thought I'd take Connor -- that's his son -- anywhere safe while I could figure or what to do. But I was, er. Intercepted."

Oh god, don't do the Buffy voice, Kennedy. Wesley would cry.

Or just grimace really hard.

"I was... on my way to a portal when a recent enemy of Angel's approached me and cut my throat," Wesley sighed, unconsciously tilting his neck so the scar was visible. "I haven't been kept abreast of the developments after that--" in large part because he was hiding in another universe's Brazil, so-- "But it's my understanding that she took Connor after, er... that."

And Wes was going to go right to 'mortified' now, because in his somewhat delusional, self-loathing brain, that reaction seemed to indicate that she was pissed off at him, rather than at the psychopathic wannabe-Slayer whose fault this whole situation was in the first place.

Wes needed to work on reasonable deduction.

"I don't," he confirmed, a little more quietly than he'd been before. "I'd... ask Angel, but I'm sure he doesn't want to hear from me right now. It's just a bit of a mess."

"I appreciate the thought, but best not," Wesley decided. "For a number of reasons, starting with what happened the last time I tried to bring in Fandom support for one of these crises."

Yeah, he definitely wasn't dragging people into a hell dimension again. That was a one-time-only kind of deal.

"I think I'd better just... wait to hear from Cordy that it's all right to go back," he sighed. It was the most flawed argument ever, but it was all he had, so. "Not to presume that I can stay here until -- er. That is, I think time moves faster here than in my world anwyay, so it's not as though I expect to, er, mooch off of you and Willow for very long."

"She did," Wesley affirmed, though he did admit, "But I suppose I rather deserved it."

And he had learned his lesson! No more field trips to hell dimensions. Well, no more surprise ones. Maybe preplanned ones were still okay.

"How are the two of you, by the way?"
