The house wasn't exactly packed yet, but the Summers living room floor had a couple more sleeping bags on it now, and Giles spent a lot of time on the phone trying to book flights. Every time she noticed him at it, Kennedy'd pull out her phone and try to get through to Portalocity again, with absolutely no luck whatsoever.

At least it was consistent. That had to count for something.

There was, from the faint incessant chatter drifting up through the floorboards, a slumber party in full swing downstairs; Buffy was out picking up a new Potential at the bus depot, and in the meantime Molly had taken it upon herself to fill Chloe, Vi, and Eve in on what they'd missed.

Molly never stopped talking, so Kennedy wasn't sorry she was missing out on that, but just because she was upstairs and away from it all it didn't mean sleep was at the top of her agenda.

God, Kennedy. )

In theory, it was training. In practice it was more like going through the motions of it. It was something to do while Buffy and Xander were out trying to find some new Potential, thanks to a heads-up from the coven in England, and Giles and Anya were out on some mission to another dimension to find something called Beljoxa's Eye. (Kennedy got a little cranky about the other-dimension thing. No fair, when she couldn't even call extradimensionally these days.)

The thing was, the training session wasn't very satisfying. More accurately, it wasn't taking the edge off Kennedy's agitation at all. In between Chloe's tentative approach to everything, Rona's total newbie-ness, and Eve's inability to keep her pessimism to herself, things were getting really annoying really fast down in this basement.

Molly was chattering steadily at Rona in a way that Kennedy had mostly tuned out; trying to get the new girl to feel welcome was a thing, and she got that. Besides, after the welcome-to-Sunnydale that Rona had gotten last night, she could probably use some of Molly's persistent ebullience.

Still. Edgy. )

It was, if Kennedy wanted to be sardonic about it, probably a good thing that Eve had turned out to be the First Evil in disguise; her constant pessimism had been getting on Kennedy's last nerve to the point where telling herself it would be a Bad Idea to punch the girl in the face hadn't been so convincing any more.

Well. It was a moot point if the face-punching turned out to be impossible, wasn't it?

Anyway, being sardonic about it wasn't making her feel any better, and the damage was done-- all of them were freaked out now and knowing the super-strong-even-by-supernatural-standards Neander-vampire was coming for them tonight? Not helping. Annabelle's death at that thing's hands was still pretty raw a couple of weeks after the fact, even before anyone factored in Buffy's inability to defeat it. Not that anyone was in a hurry to bring that up; the last few times they had, they'd gotten a killer glare from Dawn, or a stern word from Xander, or an unhelpful rant from Anya, though in Kennedy's case it had been the quiet, pleading look from Willow that had shut her up.

Little scary how fast that crush was snowballing; Kennedy hadn't realized it until she'd leapt unthinkingly to Willow's defense during the conference-turned-awkward-argument in the dining room earlier and gotten a few raised eyebrows for it.

But now? Time to gear up for battle. )

Willow? Nervous? Of course not. )

Here they all were, standing in the foyer with weapons while a bunch of Bringers and that Ubervamp thing worked on breaking down the front door. )
